Title Research: Jaws

From Art of the Title Website

- What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?

The titles are displayed over a regular movie screen. This is one of the movies that I have seen where the titles role over the actual beginning 2 minutes of the movie. I found this super cool since it is exactly what I am doing.

- What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?

The images prioritized in the sequence were actual shots of the movie. There was close ups of the characters, and shots and reverse shots between those who were in conversation.

- What connotations do these images carry?

These images actually don't carry a scary connotation, but the music does. The first scene shows a long shot and a point of view shot of someone swimming underwater. The music is the suspenseful jaws music that gets the audience creeped out.

- How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?

The outset lets the audience know what kind of show you are getting into, by including creepy and suspenseful music. This can set the tone of what to expect throughout the movie, creepy and suspenseful.

- What strategies are used to ensure the film appeals to its target audience?

If the audience is looking for a horror movie based on "monster-like" sharks and a huge fear of swimming in the ocean. For people like me, who hate the creatures that lurk within the ocean, this movie definitely captures our attention.

- How has technology been used effectively? You want to consider camera angles, transitions and editing techniques.

Obviously, the shark in this film is not real. They cannot have people getting eaten alive by sharks for the production of their movie. So, not only did they have to use technology to animate a realistic shark, but they also had to animate the realistic effects of people getting eaten by these creatures. Technology was also used to animate the surroundings of these people, as this movie was not shot in the middle of the ocean.
