My Gushers Commercial
After much editing and trimming of each shot, this is my final commercial! Like I wrote before, I have always wondered what it would be like to be the director of something. As much as I love the spotlight, it feels more comfortable when I am behind the camera and in charge of each scene. Of course, I have edited numerous videos of my sister for my parents to see, but nothing that could be displayed on TV today. One thing I learned in this project was to try new things. I have seen many of the transitions I used, in movies that I watched. Even though they took a considerable amount of time to film, I still think they came out really nicely. Another thing I learned was to always have a back up shot, or plan at that. My sister and I were lucky enough to go to the park on a day where it was nice out. However, every shot I took, I made sure to film an extra one, just incase the shot I originally liked, didn't come out the way I wanted it. When I got home, I was able to review each shot and pick which version of each scene to put in my commercial. One thing I would do differently is to narrow down the amount of different shots I filmed. I would say I had a total of 15 different shots in my commercial, that I had to fit into 6 different "main categories". When I wrote and drew my storyboard, I felt that it would have been easier to just film 6, 5-second scenes, where I could edit and add them together. Although this would have been easier, I did not end up filming my commercial this way. Why? Well, I could not get this image out of my head as to how my commercial was supposed to look. From the many articles I've read, I've found that directors create their best work when they take the dream inside their head, and put it right on the screen. Thats exactly what I did, and I feel that my commercial could not have come out any better! I love that my dream is on the screen. But most of all, I love the memories and fun behind it.
