Research Blog: Music Video Conventions

My music video will be an even mix of conventional and non-conventional shots. Obviously, people don't burst out singing in every-day life. However, everything besides that will be conventional. Jeans, black shirts, make-up, pajamas, cars, car keys, phones, and pets are things that we can observe in our every day life. Since there is no specific product being sold in a music video, I decided to look at some well known rap/ diss track songs and their music videos in order to observe what is needed in mine.

The first video I watched is obviously the music video of the song that I am using, “First Place” by Larray.  Larray has a very big personality, like mine, and he often is portrayed as a happy, go-lucky, youtuber that is all around fun. In his music video, larray and his friend are dancing to his song and driving around in his car. There are some scenes where he is lip-synching and others where he is dancing.  He includes many cool angles, shots, and special effects.  I will do the same.

The second video that I watched was Larray’s second song, “Cancelled”. This music video consisted of the same things as the first. Dancing on cars, singing with friends, slow-mo’s, and more.  He did include more friends in this music video, however he kept the same beat as his last music video, except with different words. Overall, I have a really good idea on what I can film for my music video! I watched additional tutorials that Larray’s fans made on how to include his sound effects and also how to edit like him.  I am so excited to film this music video! I hope that I can make mine as similar to his as possible. I love his positive attitude, and use him as a role model when I am in need of some positive energy. He definitely makes me feel confident and beautiful just by his words, and I hope to do the same to many people one day!

Here are the links to the two music videos of Larray's.
