My Pitch!
For my film, I felt it was very hard to brainstorm two good ideas that would leave the audience intrigued after only 2 minutes of film! However, after careful thought, I have not only thought of two ideas for my film, but I have also picked the one I will use.
My original idea for my film was to base it around a murder mystery. I love to read books about crimes as well as solving murders, so I thought basing my film around one might be fun. My idea started off with a news clipping talking about these murders, and explaining how the police have not caught the killer yet. I would show my main character walking down the street, or maybe biking. At the halfway mark in my film, I could show the "killer" begin to make his move. I could capture little things, such as the bushes moving, or maybe a dark shadow running by. This would go on until the murderer finally strikes, and that is when the screen would go pitch black. This idea was almost set in stone, until I realized two things: Two minutes into a movie is way too early for the killer to make his move, and this is EXACTLY like every other horror movie I have watched. Of course, if given the opportunity to, I would love to make that film, however, I just don't see any appeal compared to my second pitch. I did not want the standard horror film, so I decided to add some detail and switch some things to develop my film. I finally added every detail I would like, and came up with an idea that I love, and will use for my film.
Like the first pitch, my film will start off with a new report on a "lose murderer". I will face the camera away from the television and begin to show parts of the house. The audience will soon see that the people who live in this house have an obsession with none other then... Barbies. This family has pictures of Barbies everywhere. They decided that they want to have a night out, and call a babysitter to come and watch the kids. The babysitter comes and has the kids in bed. This babysitter begins to wonder around the house to look at the Barbie sculptures, and stumbles upon the parents room. The sitter looks at something in the room, at which point the camera turns to show what they are looking at: A life sized Barbie figure. The babysitter will text the parents, "complimenting" their Barbie statue. The cliffhanger in the film will be the text that the babysitter receives back from the parents.. "we don't have a Barbie statue in our house..." The film will end, leaving the audience wondering what happens next. Ultimately, I feel that the amount of detail and specificity in this film will provide for a much better and more advanced film than any typical horror story. I cant wait to start filming !!
