Filming Blog: The Park

On Thursday, October 29, I filmed my commercial. As the director, I picked up my sister from school and drove to the park with her along with all of our props. I made sure to change her into her first costume before filming her at the park, and on different park equipment. I made sure to angle the camera for each scene exactly the way I had envisioned it in my head, and also the way I had written it down and drawn it out on the storyboard. The park was filled with kids today, which was weird considering it is normally empty. Unfortunately, this meant I had to edit a lot of the kids who were screaming in the background, as well as kids who ran through the scene we were filming. I shot several scenes more than once to guarantee that I would have different choices when I got home to edit. For the last 2 scenes, I had to change my sister in the car. Once she was fully in costume, we got out so I could begin filming her in “exciting gusher wonder-land”. I helped her climb up a tree, which was by far my favorite part of filming. This tree has been there as long as I can remember, and my sister has always been scared to climb it. However, with a little motivation, I was able to get her up there, and film her jamming out to some music. I included this shot in my commercial since it made me so happy. I also filmed her swinging on the swings, surfing the slides at the park, and jumping and dancing around. Overall, this film process only took about 45 minutes, and was so much fun! It gave me an opportunity to bond with my sister. I used my phone to film all the shots. I based my commercial in one setting, so there was no need to move anything around.
