Genre Research: The Lie
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?
This movie would have been just like mine if I was filming more than 2 minutes of my movie. Similar to mine, this movie's "main" point of action happens within the first 5 minutes of the movie. This is extremely quick, considering most horror movies have their main point of action occur in the middle of the movie. For this specific movie, the "main" point of action happens, and the rest of the movie is the surrounding character's reactions to this, and the effects it has on different people. This is not normally a convention in a horror movie, but I happen to really like it! I am planning on doing the same thing with my opening sequence. Within the first two minutes, my dramatic point of action will happen and leave the audience guessing what happens next. Another element that this movie has is the same as "Scream". The whole movie is based around the power of someone's words. The title of this movie is called "The Lie" BECAUSE of the POWER of the words in a specific lie. I really like this idea, and unlike my other element, this seems to be a common convention in horror movies! My movie's point of action is framed around a single statement.
What elements of the genre did the movie have that you like?
Once again, I really liked the fact that someone's words impacted the entire motive of the movie. I also really liked the complete plot twist in the movie. I would say this movie had the BIGGEST plot twist of any movie I have ever watched!
What elements of the genre did the movie have that did not appeal to you?
One thing I did not like about this movie was it's length. I understand that in horror movies, there can be multiple points of action throughout the movie. However, in this movie, especially closer to the end, the movie became unnecessarily long, and the "horror" element was replaced with boredom. I really liked the plot of this movie, but I do think a few scenes were not necessary, and could have bettered the movie if removed.
