Editing Blog

Image
The first thing I did to edit my commercial, was transport all the videos on my phone to my computer. This is where I edit many silly youtube videos my sisters and I have made, so I have all my editing software on here. Once I was done getting the videos onto my computer, I put them all in the commercial in the correct order. I had about 5 minutes of film, because of how many times we reshot each scene. I spent about an hour cutting each scene to fit the perfect length. I unfortunately had to cut many shots out entirely since I could not fit it in the time slot. After this, my commercial was all ready for the best part of editing, effects. I spent another hour adding the needed effects to my commercial. Specifically, I needed to portray that my product made the park a more colorful place, so on half of my scenes, I put the Black & White filter on. For the other half of my scenes, I made sure to boost the saturation and different tones to make ...

Filming Blog: The Park

Image
On Thursday, October 29, I filmed my commercial. As the director, I picked up my sister from school and drove to the park with her along with all of our props. I made sure to change her into her first costume before filming her at the park, and on different park equipment. I made sure to angle the camera for each scene exactly the way I had envisioned it in my head, and also the way I had written it down and drawn it out on the storyboard. The park was filled with kids today, which was weird considering it is normally empty. Unfortunately, this meant I had to edit a lot of the kids who were screaming in the background, as well as kids who ran through the scene we were filming. I shot several scenes more than once to guarantee that I would have different choices when I got home to edit. For the last 2 scenes, I had to change my sister in the car. Once she was fully in costume, we got out so I could begin filming her in “exciting gusher wonder-land”. I helped her climb...

Planning Storyboard for my Gushers commercial

Image
First Scene-  During this scene, I will be introducing the audience to the park. This is the one setting where my commercial will take place, and I will film an establishing shot to avoid any confusion as to where this is. The scene will also be dark and plain, to show that the park is empty, uneventful, and boring. This is important to know before my product is introduced. Second Scene- This scene will be focusing on one specific part of the park, the swing set, instead of the entirety of it. I want the audience to have one main focus, the girl on the swing set, so that they don't miss any details. The girl on the swing set, which will be the main actress, will match her surroundings in plain, everyday attire. Once again, this is important to show emphasis on the colorful Gushers gummies. Third Scene- My third scene will start off with a close up shot of the girl's face in order to show a shift in her mood, as she see's something in the distance. I will show the audience a...

Planning for my Gushers commercial

Image
Props: I am producing a Gushers commercial, so my main prop will be a packet of gushers. I will also include flowers, a climbing tree, and the actually gusher's gummies. Costumes: I will have my sister be the main actor in this commercial. Since I would like to make this film to seem very conventional at first, my sister will be wearing everyday clothing, that will change once she bites the Gusher. At first, she will be wearing denim jean shorts and a plain black shirt to show a bigger change to when she switches to her second costume. Her second costume will consist of a brightly colored shirt and rainbow shorts. Her shirt will either be pink, green, or blue. Her hair will be up in a bun for the first half, and in the second half, she will have her hair down with chalk and colorful beads in it.  Schedule: On 10/22/2020, I will research different filters, colors, apps, and review camera angles in order to understand how to best film my commercial. On 10/23/2020, I will set the prop...

Research blog: Commercial Conventions

Image
I have chosen to create a commercial for the product Gushers !   Gushers are a type of gummy snacks, that come in little yellow packs, and inside the gummies, you can find candy gel. Typically, their commercials convey that the Gushers contain 'such delicious gel' that the people who eat it crave everything that is in a gel substance. In order to observe some of the conventions in these commercials, I looked up typical Gushers  commercial's and found two that I will provide the links for at the end. I was able to observe the following conventions in these two commercials.      To start, the first commercial I watched took place in a normal bathroom. There was one kid in the bathroom, and she was going up to the sink to wash her hands. All normal, right?  Well, as she walks over to the soap dispenser, she suddenly bends down and squirts the soap into her mouth. Then, as if the commercial transports her back into reality again, s...
