My titles will appear on my screen for around 2-3 seconds, long enough for the audience to read, but short enough to guarantee that this won't distra...

Location, Participants, Health, and Schedule

Image
Schedule: Today's date is February 25, 2021. My Opening Sequence is due April of 2021. I intend to space out my film schedule just enough for me to have time to incorporate every detail I plan to, but still finish my film in a safe amount of time. 02/26/21- I will edit my titles and pick the fonts, animation, and color scheme I want to use. 03/02-05/21- I will check to make sure I have all of the necessary props for this film. I will also be taking a trip to my local beauty store to get makeup for face painting materials. I will do a check to make sure props are in place and accessible when needed. 03/21-23/21- Since this is a weekend, I will use this time to film my movie. This will have to be done later in the night, since this is when my film takes place. I will film in each different location to ensure that no more filming will need to be done. 03/23-25/21- Editing will follow directly after I film my movie. Normally, this will only take a day, but since I have school that week...

Title Research: Jaws

Image
From Art of the Title Website - What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?
The titles are displayed over a regular movie screen. This is one of the movies that I have seen where the titles role over the actual beginning 2 minutes of the movie. I found this super cool since it is exactly what I am doing. - What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
The images prioritized in the sequence were actual shots of the movie. There was close ups of the characters, and shots and reverse shots between those who were in conversation. - What connotations do these images carry?
These images actually don't carry a scary connotation, but the music does. The first scene shows a long shot and a point of view shot of someone swimming underwater. The music is the suspenseful jaws music that gets the audience creeped out. - How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset? The outset lets the audience know what kind of show you are getting...

Title Research: Halloween

Image
From Art of the Title Website - What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?
The titles displayed here are the cast and credit names, such as "Directed by:". - What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
The images that are prioritized here are actually semi- still pictures instead of animated ones. They include pictures of a crushed pumpkin that slowly starts to rise with each title until the pumpkin is alive and lit up through the eyes and mouth. The sequence slowly dims and zooms into the pumpkin until the screen is black and only the pumpkin eyes light the screen. - What connotations do these images carry?
These images carry a scary connotation as well as set a theme for the entire movie. The movie's name is Halloween, so naturally, seeing a scary pumpkin come to life ensures the audience that this movie is exactly what it promises to be. - How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?
  Like I mentioned before, the...

Title Research: Goosebumps 2

Image
From Art of the Title Website - What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?
This film displays the names of those who wrote and animated the movie first, unlike Silent Hill. This is because of the fact that this movie was entirely animated, so the designers got more credit than the voice actors. - What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
In this sequence, there are no images. Instead, the title sequence and credits are placed over an animated background of all the different characters from this movie. - What connotations do these images carry?
These images carry a spooky and horror theme. Although this movie is targeted for a kids audience (I still cant watch it, I get freaked out), it falls under the horror category. This is a halloween based movies with characters such as zombies, walking dolls, mummies, and more. - How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?
You can automatically know from this outset that th...

Title Research: Silent Hill

Image
I got this movie from Watch the Titles Website. - What titles are displayed during the opening sequences?
The titles that are displayed are the cast titles. Most of them include the name of the actor who plays that role, and in between, they will list other names that went into to the production. - What images are prioritized in the opening sequence?
Images of each actor. I have a feeling that the faces of these actors are ones to remember throughout the film, so the designers may want the audience to have a first look. - What connotations do these images carry?
These images carry a scary connotation. They are black and white images with 'something' splattered upon them. This is most likely to scare the audience and set the theme of the movie down. - How does the film establish a feeling of the genre from the outset?
Looking at the title sequence, the designers make it very clear that this movie is a horror movie. From the gloomy filter, to the transitions be...

Title Research: Watch the Titles Website

Image
This website was similar to the other one, however I found that I liked this website more. This website offers you a variety of different title sequences. Instead of just looking at the sequence, you can watch it! I watched the 'Godzilla: Final Wars' sequence, and loved how it was animated.  Not only does this website play the sequence, but it lists information about the designer and editors, the most well-known titles from that sequence, links to different parts of the film, and even some of the awards or what the sequence is recognized for!  This website gives you a significant amount of information compared to the last. I can study this website in order to learn about title sequences as a whole, and also different ways to make my titles stand out. I can also research different designers, and some of their work for inspiration. This website felt extremely organized. I loved how each time you click on the titles, it gives you a tiny animated previe...

Title Research: Art of the Title Website

Image
This website is exactly what the name promises: The Art of a Title. In the picture above, I was looking through numerous title sequences to see if I could recognize them. Of course, I recognized Shazam, The Lego Movie 2, Spiderman into the Spider-verse, and more. This may not come as a shock, but I was able to recognize these titles BEFORE reading them. This is because of the tremendous amount of work these animators and illustrators put into each title. Titles are meant to be a visual representation of the movie or show you are watching. Just like companies have logos, films have titles! The website is sorted into different categories depending on who the animator or team that created the titles. I found that I could click on "Title Sequence" in general, and it would display every title. If I clicked on a specific name, it would give me a description of this designer, the titles that he/she created, and a summary of these titles. This website really allowed me to st...

Genre Research: Parasite

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie, I'd say, is the most interesting one out of all. This movie is written in Korean, and is based on a family in Korea that slowly starts clinging onto this wealthy family. I assume the name parasite originates from the parasitic behavior in the movie. This movie may seem like nothing special for people who speak this language. Just another horror movie. However for people who don't speak Korean, like myself,  the entire effect of the movie is dependent on the subtitles. Every word that is written or spoken is an important detail, and it would be impossible to follow the movie without them. Personally, I love to read, so words have a bigger effect on me than movies ever could. This movie, like my short film, relies on the power of words. There are some sentences that leave your eyes wide and the hair on the back of your neck standing up because of how creepy they are. I love this...

Genre Research: The Lie

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have? This movie would have been just like mine if I was filming more than 2 minutes of my movie. Similar to mine, this movie's "main" point of action happens within the first 5 minutes of the movie. This is extremely quick, considering most horror movies have their main point of action occur in the middle of the movie. For this specific movie, the "main" point of action happens, and the rest of the movie is the surrounding character's reactions to this, and the effects it has on different people. This is not normally a convention in a horror movie, but I happen to really like it! I am planning on doing the same thing with my opening sequence. Within the first two minutes, my dramatic point of action will happen and leave the audience guessing what happens next. Another element that this movie has is the same as "Scream". The whole movie is based around the power o...

Genre Research: Scream

Image
What elements of the genre that you chose to base your final task on does this movie have?      This movie is about kids who continued to be effected by this masked murderer. The movie is called scream because the mask from above is stuck in a permanent scream! In this movie, there are numerous jump scares, which I stated from before, I will not be using. However, there is one scene that heavily influenced my film. The beginning of the movie begins with a creepy phone call with a girl. The killer calls, and has a conversation with this girl. It is completely innocent, until the killer asks for the girl's name. She asks him why he wants to know, before answering " So I know who I am looking at". These words can send a chill up the audiences back. Imagine hearing that line on the phone.  The girl begins to panic and eventually runs right into the killer's trap. All this because of the power of his words. I would like my opening sequence to have this effect on the ...

Genre Decision Blog

Image
I had a tough time deciding between two Genres, as far as which one my film would fall under. I could not decide between Horror or Thriller.  My film is a "scary movie" to look at it broadly. However, the things that occur are not necessarily "scary movie conventions". What this means, you are normally able to tell if a movie is scary by certain things that occur, like jump scares, blood, or scary figures. But, my film will only contain one of these things. The reason I am not including these things is because I want my movie to represent the impact of words. The main "scare" in my movie will be a single text. These words will absolutely break the movie into chaos. I want the thrill of these words to reach my audience. This brings me to my original contradiction, is my film a "Horror" movie or a "Thriller".      I decided, that I will label my movie as a Horror Movie. I have several reasons for this. The first is, you may feel ...

Genre Research: Sci-Fi & Sad

Image
Science Fiction: Common CAMS in the Genre? Point of View shots are frequent because the characters are constantly in a lab or working with technology, so it always shows their point of view of a computer screen, or what they are observing on the cameras. There are also many wide shots to show the entire scene of action. Common CLAMPS in the Genre? There are lots of special effects on the actors because most of the time, they are observing creatures from different worlds and dimensions. Directors also design people and robots to look like aliens and other extinct creatures. Some scenes are poorly lit because they are either exploring an abandoned area or focused on a small piece of technology, which does not allow for much light. The sets are very diversely designed for Sci-Fi movies. It ranges from Jurassic Park to The Meg. Common Editing in the Genre? The editing varies as well, but most of the time, there is slow paced editing because it gives the audience a better and more detailed ...

Genre Research: Horror

In this powerpoint, I researched the Genre that appealed to me the most: Horror. The first thing I researched was the lighting in horror movies, which is normally dark or dim to leave more room for the element of surprise. Camera Angles come next, where I discuss the facts that close-ups are most commonly used. This is in order to show the fear on a character's face, or maybe to conceal a monster until the last minute. In order to have a jump scare, things need to pop out at the audience, filmed from a close up shot. The next topic was the common movement in a Horror film. I wrote in greater detail to explain that zoom was the most common movement in these films, again creating the illusion of a jump scare.  It also can create suspense as the movie slowly reveals a scary figure. The next slide of my powerpoint talks about "Mis-en-Scene". This could be any typical scene in a horror movie, such as a dark alley way with only one dimly-lit street light. This ...

My Pitch!

Image
For my film, I felt it was very hard to brainstorm two good ideas that would leave the audience intrigued after only 2 minutes of film! However, after careful thought, I have not only thought of two ideas for my film, but I have also picked the one I will use.       My original idea for my film was to base it around a murder mystery. I love to read books about crimes as well as solving murders, so I thought basing my film around one might be fun. My idea started off with a news clipping talking about these murders, and explaining how the police have not caught the killer yet. I would show my main character walking down the street, or maybe biking. At the halfway mark in my film, I could show the "killer" begin to make his move. I could capture little things, such as the bushes moving, or maybe a dark shadow running by. This would go on until the murderer finally strikes, and that is when the screen would go pitch black. This idea was almost set in...

Starting the Final Task!!

Image
Hi! My name is Sarah H! If you cant tell by the way I type, I am an extremely optimistic person. I always look to see the best in people and other things. Because of my rocky past, one of my strong morals is to remain positive, and to smile more. I am also very social! I am a sophomore at Fort Lauderdale High School, which is where I get to interact the most. I have made so many new friends, and our interactions at school make my day! If I had to describe myself in a different light , I would make sure to include the fact that I love to read. Aside from using technology, I am also a pretty old fashioned person. I love to read paper books instead of online, and if I could live in the 50's for a day, I WOULD. Between the "no phones" or the "little diners", it just sounds like a nicer time.      One thing about me that affects my school work is the fact that I am a perfectionist. I love things to be very neat and organized, and I love my school work to be...
